From: Genetic inactivation and pharmacological blockade of sigma-1 receptors prevent paclitaxel-induced sensory-nerve mitochondrial abnormalities and neuropathic pain in mice

Figure 5

Effect of the genetic inactivation of the σ 1 R on paclitaxel-induced mitochondrial abnormalities. Effect of treatment with paclitaxel or its vehicle on the percentage of atypical mitochondria on myelinated (a) and unmyelinated (b) fibers of saphenous nerves from WT and σ1R-KO mice. Each point and vertical line represent the mean ± SEM of the percentage of atypical mitochondria relative to the total number of mitochondria in each type of fiber at day PRE (before treatment) and at days 10 and 28 posttreatment (n = 3-5 animals per day). Statistically significant differences between paclitaxel-treated WT mice and vehicle-treated WT mice and between the values on the pretreatment day and the days after treatment, ##p < 0.01; statistically significant differences between WT and σ1R-KO mice on the same day after treatment, *p < 0.05 (two-way ANOVA followed by Bonferroni test).
