Photomicrographs and quantification of immunohistochemical staining for c-Fos in nuclei of cells of the thoracic spinal cord (T9–10) are shown for week 10. Spinal cord dorsal horn is shown in A-D. Spinal cord lamina X is shown in E-H. Naïve rats have almost no nuclei staining for c-Fos (A, E). Significantly more nuclei staining for c-Fos are found in animals with diet-induced pancreatitis and application of vehicle (B, F) or HSV-β-gal (C, G). Few nuclei were stained for c-Fos in animals given the diet and application of HSV-ENK (D, H).
