Intraplantar capsaicin and carrageenan result in significant nociception in both male and female rats. Intraplantar capsaicin induces significant ipsilateral mechanical hyperalgesia for at least 24 hours post-administration in both male (A) and female (B) rats, as compared to vehicle injection. Intraplantar carrageenan induces significant ipsilateral heat hyperalgesia and mechanical hyperalgesia in both male (C, E) and female (D, F) rats, as compared to vehicle injection.
