Effect of injury on σ1 receptor (σ1R) expression in sensory neurons. (A) Decreases of σ1 receptor (σ1R) immunofluorescence intensity were found in both spinal nerve ligation (SNL) 4th lumbar (L4) and 5th lumbar (L5) neurons compared with that in Control animals. (B) Summary data showed decrease of intensity of staining in SNL L4 and L5 neurons. Number in bars represents the n for neurons. (C) Classified by neuronal size (<700, 700-1300 and >1300 μm3), SNL L4 DRG neurons showed lower σ1R intensity (arbitrary units, recorded using standardized image acquisition) than Control in all three size groups, and SNL L5 neurons in the small and medium size groups showed lower σ1R intensity than Controls. The data for Control groups are the same as shown in Figure 1C. Mean ± SEM; *p < 0.05, **p < 0.01, ***p < 0.001.
