Subcutaneous injection of CFA in the lower lip induced microglial activation in the brain. In response to local CFA, microglial activation was only observed in the CVOs, such as the area postrema (AP) (upper row), with minor changes in microglial morphology at 5 and 48 hours post-injection (middle row). No activated microglia were found at the edge of the grey matter. Diagrams were adapted and modified from [59]. Scale bar: 50 μm.
